Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett’s breakout podcast SmartLess is continuing its recent string of successes with a total of four nominations at the 2022 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards.
The podcast, which launched last summer and recently inked a major deal with Amazon and Wondery, received nods for podcast of the year, best ad read and best comedy show, while Hayes was nominated for best host. For the top podcast prize, SmartLess is joined by other hits like Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend; Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli, and Yasiin Bey’s The Midnight Miracle; NPR’s Code Switch and Louder Than a Riot; and the New York Times’ The Daily for podcast of the year. Other nominees in that category include Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s Office Ladies, which won the top prize at the 2021 awards, Crime Junkie, Stuff You Should Know and You’re Wrong About.
The 2022 awards, which will take place in-person on January 13, 2022, at the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, also includes two new categories: podcast to watch and best international podcast. Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein, who hosts Films To Be Buried With, received a nomination alongside Maintenance Phase, Murder in Alliance, Revolutions and Rotten Mango.
“We are excited to be back live for year four of the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards to recognize all the amazing content and talent that the podcasting medium has produced this past year,” Conal Byrne, the CEO of iHeartMedia’s digital audio group, said in a statement. “Podcast listening has continued to soar across the U.S., … filling this industry with more diversity and innovation than ever before. We look forward to honoring these major advancements in-person during the 2022 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards this January.”
