If you thought there was any way that 50 Cent was going to make it off the Jimmy Kimmel Live! couch on Thursday night (Sept. 16) without weighing in on the Nicki Minaj COVID-19 TesticleGate, well, clearly you don’t know Jimmy … or 50.
“I heard that you got — and I know this is supposed to be a surprise — but I heard you got Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend’s testicles to be on this show. Is that true?” the host asked 50, who was on to promote the upcoming BMF series that the rapper executive produced. Knowing that the artist born Curtis Jackson would not be able to resist a chance to weigh in on the controversy surrounding Nicki’s explanation for why she has not gotten the jab yet, Kimmel was rewarded with a classic 50 comeback.
“Listen, you didn’t look at the details of that situation,” the rapper laughed. “The details said he was about to get married. I think the testicles, it could be from the bachelor party. Nobody said that. Why nobody thought about the bachelor party? Now, if you had a really good bachelor party and stuff starts swelling, it was Pfizer! It was definitely Pfizer!”
Budding TV mogul 50 also found time to chat about the upcoming Starz series BMF, which will feature cameos from the rapper’s longtime pals Eminem and Snoop Dogg. “I persuaded him to come [aboard],” 50 said of Marshall Mathers, who legendarily made a big-screen splash as the star of the semi-autobiographical Oscar-winning 8 Mile in 2002, but has never properly followed up on that role in the years since.
“I actually directed the episode that he’s in. … I called him, I put pressure on him, Jimmy,” 50 explained of the return to the screen for Em, who will play legendary Detroit drug and gun dealer/teenage FBI informant Rick Wershe Jr., aka White Boy Rick. “I think he had a terrible experience on the 8 Mile project.”
“He just didn’t want to go back again, like, ever again,” 50 added, revealing that for years, Hollywood would offer him roles in an effort to get Em interested. But when the two would discuss the potential big screen team-ups, 50 said Marshall would say he read the, then kept pitching him on a re-make of the classic 1979 New York street gang cult classic The Warriors. “Did you just miss the eight million dollars [they offered you]?” the “In Da Club” rapper said of his response to Em’s rejections of countless high-paying acting gigs.
“And he’s like, ‘Let’s go record records!’” he said of Eminem’s responses.
Jackson also talked about directing Snoop on the show about the Black Mafia Family, but as you might expect, it was hard to get the big Dogg to stop smoking weed on set. When director 50 would go to Snoop’s trailer to implore him to ease up a bit before getting into character, he said the Doggfather would just remind him, “It’s legal, 50, it’s legal! Why you telling me to stop it?”
