Chris Stapleton and Jimmy Fallon have teamed up for another collaboration following Stapleton’s recent performance of “You Should Probably Leave” on The Tonight Show (where Fallon stepped in at the last minute for one of Stapleton’s ailing bandmates and backed Stapleton on guitar).
In a humorous new video, Stapleton and Fallon pay homage to Nancy Meyers films such as Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday and The Parent Trap, among others.
Throughout the clip, Stapleton and Fallon highlight visual hallmarks of classic Meyers films, including cashmere sweaters, linen pants, kitchens with copper cookware and farmhouse sinks, white bathrobes and “the nicest rugs I’ve ever seen.” They also nod to Meryl Streep’s baking (from the film It’s Complicated), Robert De Niro doing tai chi in the park (The Intern) and “sparking up with Alec Baldwin.”
“When I need a little heart and I want to be inspired/ I get cozy on the couch/ watch a film by Nancy Meyers,” they sing in the chorus, as the clip shows them reenacting classic scenes from many of the Meyers films.
Stapleton is nominated for several honors at the upcoming Country Music Association Awards, including entertainer of the year, album of the year (Starting Over), male vocalist of the year, as well as single and song of the year (both for “Starting Over”).
He also recently teamed with Santana for the track “Joy,” from Santana’s album Blessings & Miracles, out Oct. 15. Stapleton is a writer and producer on the track, which melds Santana’s legendary guitar work and Stapleton’s rough-hewn, commanding vocals.
