Coldplay and BTS are basking in the success of their recent collaboration, “My Universe.” On Tuesday (Oct. 5), the British rock band and the K-pop supergroup exchanged congratulatory messages on Twitter shortly after finding out that their joint single, released on Sept. 24, has officially debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated Oct. 9.
Coldplay kicked off the exchange by tweeting a photo of their chart achievement, and captioned their post, “Congratulations RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook @BTS_twt. Thank you to Coldplayers and ARMY and everyone who made this happen. love c, g, w, j & p.”
The “Butter” hitmakers expressed their gratitude to the British band as well as the fans in their dedicated ARMY. “It’s been always an honor to make this all happen with you ! Big love and congrats !” the group wrote. “Thank you to ARMY and Coldplayers love r, j , s, h, j, j, v.”
“My Universe” has also seen success on rock and alternative charts; the song debuted Nos. 38 and 42 on the Alternative Airplay and Rock & Alternative Airplay surveys dated Oct. 2. BTS earn their first placements on the rock and alternative charts with the debut.
Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay, revealed that working with BTS turned him into an ARMY member. “I love them, and we love them, and it’s been such a joy … anytime there’s actual communication or music between us, it just feels so good,” he told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “I unabashedly and unashamedly feel really grateful for the song, grateful for the person that inspired the song, and grateful for the people we sing it with.”
