The Los Angeles city attorney’s office is considering criminal charges against Diplo related to sexual misconduct allegations.
According to a report published on BuzzFeed News, this consideration follows a police investigation into the allegations stemming from a complaint made by a 25-year-old woman with the LAPD in October 2020. As reported by BuzzFeed, the city attorney’s office is considering charges of invasion of privacy and intentionally giving someone a sexually transmitted infection, both misdemeanors in California.
Rob Wilcox, the director of community engagement and outreach at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office, tells Billboard: “Our office is reviewing the referral and we have no further comment at this time.”
This is the latest development in a situation extending back nearly a year that involves the producer (born Thomas Wesley Pentz) and a woman who brought allegations against Diplo regarding the distribution of “revenge porn” last fall.
The woman received a temporary restraining order against Diplo in November 2020, with the 42-year-old producer then receiving his own temporary restraining order in early December that prevented the woman from contacting him. In May, Diplo sued the woman — with whom Diplo’s attorney confirmed he had a brief consensual relationship — for allegations of revenge pornography, stalking and trespassing.
In a statement to Billboard regarding these potential criminal charges, Diplo’s attorney Bryan Freedman says, “Yet more lies from the same disturbed individual who has been stalking and menacing Wes, his family and his friends for years. … She has been peddling her lies around the country in a desperate attempt to harm Wes and those he loves, but she will not succeed.”
In July, a woman who accused Diplo of forcing her to perform oral sex dismissed her lawsuit against the producer less than 10 days after making the allegations.
