When it comes to choosing songs for Imagine Dragons albums, frontman Dan Reynolds said on Tuesday’s (Sept. 21) Kelly Clarkson Show that it’s a family affair.
“You’ve got four kids at home — that’s a lot of kiddos, so do they enjoy Dad making music?” Clarkson asked Reynolds. “Do they think you’re cool still?”
“I think they think I’m cool,” Reynolds replied. “I play music for them every day. I write music every day, and between them and my wife, they’re the ones who pick what goes in an Imagine Dragons record. I play them the songs and if they wanna hear it again, I’m like ‘OK, there’s something here.’ If they don’t, then it doesn’t go in the record, so you can thank my 4-year-olds for putting together the record.”
Imagine Dragons recently dropped their fifth studio album, Mercury – Act 1, on Sept. 3. The record debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart. After the album was released, Reynolds went on Instagram and thanked his friends and family for encouraging his music career.
“To the fans, my friends and family who have continually supported me and my band for years now: Thank you doesn’t quite say it. I’m a very lucky man,” he wrote. “Your support has enabled me to be able to do what I love for over 10 years now. My friends and family have dealt with me being absent from birthdays, holidays and just life in general.”
