Saturday Night Live officially returns with season 47 on Oct. 2, with the help of musical guests Kacey Musgraves, Halsey, Young Thug and Brandi Carlile.
Musgraves, who made her SNL debut in 2018 around the time her highly acclaimed Golden Hour album was released, will kick off the new season alongside host Owen Wilson on Oct. 2. Kim Kardashian will host the following weekend on Oct. 9, accompanied by musical guest Halsey, who performed songs from her third album Manic last year during the first 2020 episode of NBC’s late-night sketch comedy series.
Rami Malek will host the Oct. 16 episode, where Thug will make his proper debut as a musical guest debut after he joined Megan Thee Stallion onstage to perform their “Don’t Stop” collab last year. And to close out the month, Emmy-winning Ted Lasso actor Jason Sudeikis will host the show and Carlile will perform as the musical guest.
All four hosts are first-timers, and all four musicians have recent or soon-to-be-released projects to promote. Musgraves’ latest studio effort star-crossed came out on Sept. 10 and launched at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and Top Album Sales charts. Halsey’s fourth album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which was released Aug. 27, also topped Top Album Sales, as well as Alternative Albums and Vinyl Albums. Young Thug and his label YSL Records’ Billboard 200-topping collaborative album Slime Language 2 came out in April, but his second studio album Punk is set to be released the day before his SNL appearance on Oct. 15 via YSL Records/300 Entertainment. Carlile will release her seventh studio album In These Silent Days on Oct. 1 via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records.
